New Volkswagen Tiguan Set to Launch in South Africa: Pricing and Key Details Revealed
Volkswagen is gearing up to introduce the 3rd-generation Tiguan to the South African market, featuring a refreshed exterior, a completely redesigned interior, and an updated engine lineup. Ahead of its official launch, we’ve uncovered local pricing for this highly anticipated model, which will offer a total of six derivatives, although only two will be available at launch.
Pricing Overview
The new Tiguan range will kick off with the entry-level Tiguan 1.4 TSI 110 kW DSG, priced at R651,500. This model is powered by Volkswagen’s familiar 1.4-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 110 kW and 250 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. Interestingly, this base model is slightly more expensive than the outgoing version, which was R13,800 cheaper.
For those seeking a bit more luxury, the Tiguan 1.4 TSI 110 kW Life DSG will be available at R702,800, representing a price drop of R9,600 compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the sportier Tiguan 1.4 TSI 110 kW R-Line DSG, which will also be available at launch, is priced at R766,300, marking a R15,500 reduction from the previous model.
Diesel and Higher-End Options
The range expands with the addition of the Tiguan 2.0 TDI 110 kW Life 4Motion DSG, priced at R755,700. This model introduces a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, detuned from 130 kW to 110 kW, a change that is also reflected in the Tiguan 2.0 TDI 110 kW R-Line 4Motion DSG, priced at R834,800. Despite the drop in power, these models are competitively priced, with the latter being R25,100 cheaper than the outgoing version.
Topping the range is the Tiguan 2.0 TSI 140 kW R-Line 4Motion DSG, which comes in at R835,900. Although this model is also priced lower than its predecessor by R25,700, it has seen a reduction in power from 162 kW to 140 kW.
New Features and Design
Built on Volkswagen’s latest MQB Evo platform, the new Tiguan brings a host of updates. It will be optionally available with VW’s advanced IQ.Light HD matrix headlamps and can be equipped with alloy wheels up to 20 inches in diameter.
Inside, the cabin is thoroughly modernized, featuring high-quality materials and a refined finish. The new digital instrument cluster and large infotainment screen (12.9 inches standard, with a 15-inch option) are standout features. The R-Line models will also come with optional “ergoActive Plus” leather seats, offering 4-way lumbar adjustment and a 10-chamber massage function.
In terms of size, the new Tiguan has grown slightly, now measuring 4,539 mm in length, which is about 30 mm longer than before. The luggage compartment has also been expanded by 37 liters, now offering a total of 652 liters of storage space.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan is poised to make a strong impression in the South African market with its blend of advanced technology, refined design, and competitive pricing. With a starting price of R651,500 and a range of features that cater to different needs, the 3rd-generation Tiguan offers something for everyone.
